Frequently asked question

Define each of the four theoretical perspectives in your own words and provide an example of each. The four theoretical viewpoints on gender formation are symbolic interaction, identification theory, social learning theory, and cognitive development concept. According to the identification concept, individuals often try to emulate the perspectives, beliefs, and actions of others that they find appealing or relatable. This shapes a child's early growth and unconsciously acquired learning habits. For example, a teenager may aspire to follow in the footsteps of a well-known athlete that they look up to. They begin to emulate the athlete by imitating their training schedules, dressing similarly, and reasoning in the same manner. According to the social learning hypothesis, people pick up new skills by seeing, copying, and modeling people's actions in their social surroundings. It highlights how social relationships and other people's influence shape a person's behavior and help them learn new things (Rumjaun & Narod, 2020). For instance, a kid picks up the skill of riding a bike by observing their bigger sibling. They observe their older sibling perform tasks like balancing, steering, and cycling, and they subsequently mimic similar actions. According to the cognitive development paradigm, kids learn acceptable social strategies for everyday conversations through interactions with their environment. Older cognitive advancements are modified to meet newer ones as the child matures and engages in additional activities. For instance, when confronted with an unfamiliar situation, youngsters will initially react in fear, although as they observe others dealing with a similar scenario, they will learn how to act properly. The theoretical approach known as symbolic interactionism concentrates on how social communications, symbols, and meanings influence how individuals act and how society functions. According to Carter & La Written Assignment 1  Gender as a Social Process In this assignment, you will provide a meaningful comparison and contrast among at least four different theoretical perspectives that focus on the formation of gender: identification theory, social learning theory, cognitive-development theory, and symbolic interaction.  Focusing on these four theoretical perspectives, write a 2-page essay (500 to 600 words) that addresses the following: Define each of the four theoretical perspectives in your own words and provide an example of each. Provide an analysis of at least four key differences between these theoretical models. Choosing two of the four perspectives, explain how the two perspectives you have chosen are similar or may complement each other.

Citing material from your reading, explain the fundamental way in which Marx and Mannheim theorized about the origins of ideas. According to Marx's theory, an individual's surroundings influence their norms and behaviors. A person's past can have a beneficial or detrimental effect on their choices and actions. In addition, Marx promotes the concept that social and economic class differences influence individual perspectives and social norms. A person's opinions can be influenced by their financial situation. The idea of Marx primarily addresses economic, social, and political problems in the capitalist and wage-earning groups (Korpi, 2022). Marx contends that the concept would lead to a revolution in which the working class would overthrow the capitalists and take charge of the financial system. He maintained that ideas do not originate from history but from material conditions. He demonstrates various aspects of social organization, morality, and religion that have their roots in economics in his model. Marx's primary contention was that there are two classes in the globe. In addition, he demonstrates how a person's surroundings and social standing influence their life decisions. Mannheim contends that a person's conception of ideas and social norms is shaped by their surroundings. Mannheim argues that new concepts arise through the dissolution of old customs. From his point of view, inventive concepts occur as mistakes, ambiguities, heresies, or curiosities because of traditions. Manheim states that socioeconomic status, geography, and generation are the factors that determine knowledge (McCourt, 2012). Residents in certain areas have varying levels of understanding since those areas are more exposed than others. In addition, higher social class individuals possess greater knowledge than lower-class individuals. Higher-class individuals are more susceptible to and able to pay for better lifestyles and educational opportunities than lower-class individuals. Next, analyzing at least three concepts from your reading material, explain how a set of ideas, or an ideology, may influence what people expect in intimate relationships.
