Frequently asked question

NURS-FPX4010 at Capella University. Reflecting on one of my own personal interdisciplinary collaboration events and noting ways in which it was successful and unsuccessful in achieving the desired outcomes. I will explain how poor collaboration can result in inefficient management of human and financial resources supported by evidence from Literature. I will identify best practice leadership strategies from literature that would improve an Interdisciplinary team's ability to achieve its goals. Introduction So, a little bit about myself, I have been a Registered Nurse for the past 16 years with the past 11years being a Hemodialysis nurse. While working in the inpatient unit at a well-known intercity hospital during the Covid 19 pandemic, it seemed as if we'd had a sudden influx of Covid positive patients with acute kidney injury requiring hemodialysis. One day towards the beginning of the outbreak, a few coworkers and I were dialyzing a few covid positive patients as usual when we noted how within 30 minutes the extracorporeal circuit was completely clotted off resulting in the patients losing approximately 200cc of blood. This frequent clotting of the blood lines caused the dialysis staff to be at risk of increased exposure due to having to go in and out of the rooms to breakdown and restart the dialy

Assessment 2  Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification Summary The focus of the interview conducted was Savior Healthcare, a well-known healthcare organization. The interviewee, Dr. Allan Harding, a Medical Director at the organization, played a significant role in making the exercise a success. In his role as a Medical Director, Dr. Harding contributes immensely by ensuring that clinical operations are carried out well, availability of high-quality care to patients, and linking the medical personnel with the organization’s executive leadership (Byrne, 2017). The main issues discussed in the interview included the complex problems concerning communication and teamwork among the healthcare professionals in Savior Healthcare. The outcome of these issues was experienced through delays in providing care to patients and reduced quality of services. Dr. Harding highlighted some of the efforts that the organization adopted to find a solution. They comprised the implementation of training programs and communication strategies as a way of improving service delivery and reducing delays. Sadly, these efforts were not sufficient as the problems persisted. This showed the need for an effective and reliable interdisciplinary approach in the organization (Byrne, 2017). The organizational culture at Savior Healthcare has been described by Dr. Harding as hierarchical. The organizational culture, although effective to some extent, caused some challenges to smooth collaboration among medical practitioners. The suggestion for a cultural change was proposed during the interview for the staff to enjoy open communication and enhance a collaborative relationship. This would facilitate unity toward achieving high-quality patient care (Byrne, 2017). The interviewee has a lot of experience in the healthcare industry. He has worked in 3 various and diverse interdisciplinary teams where different employees work together to solve complex and challenging patient cases. His understanding shows the need to change the organizational structure to accommodate interdisciplinary collaboration which is key for patient care improvement (Byrne, 2017).
