NURS-FPX4030 – Making Evidence-Based Decisions

            The competency of evidence-based practice in nursing is the area of a nursing practice that means making the best decisions based on the evidence available to guiding patients’ care. Nurses must be able to appraise the clinical research, skillfully expose evidence to their practice, and constantly give a nod to the outcomes of their decisions in order to deliver the best level of care. The crucial attribute of such decisions necessitates an ability that involves critical evaluation of studies. The nurses must be competent in the art of critically reviewing research studies, determining their applicability in their practice, and implement the findings in their clinical decision-making. This means that one should have a good knowledge of research methodology and be able to carefully read and analyze results of research studies.

Another factor contributing to the making of evidence-based choices is the communication skills about cooperation with other healthcare professionals. Nurses sometimes work with other team members as they combine to form interdisciplinary teams, and they must be able to communicate effectively by sharing information and making decisions that are based on evidence.
