In this course, learners explore the theoretical foundations and principles of health promotion and disease prevention across the lifespan for individuals, families, and populations. The importance of communication and interprofessional collaboration to enhance health promotion and patient learning are discussed. Protective and predictive factors that influence health, including lifestyle behaviors and genetics, are examined in the context of health promotion for diverse populations. 

Unit 2 Select a Topic and Objective of Interest

During this course, you will be compiling information on a health promotion topic of your choice. This week you will choose a topic and objective that is interesting to you from the Healthy People 2030 website. You will use this topic and objective to complete the remaining assignments in the course. In the course assignments, you will use this topic to examine various health promotion concepts, create a health promotion plan, and finally, create a patient education brochure which will be shared with a member of your target audience. Complete the template (provided in Canvas) to identify the following: 1. A selected topic AND objective of interest from the Healthy People 2030 website 2. A population of interest (the targeted population for your brochure – e.g., parents of infants or young adults ages 18 to 25) 3. The reference for the Healthy People 2030 website correctly formatted according to APA 4. The reference for a scholarly or professional source of your choice correctly formatted according to APA You will also address the following prompts by completing the template (provided in Canvas): 1. Summarize the Healthy People 2030 topic and objective that you chose. 2. Provide a rationale for your topic choice. 3. Discuss health promotion initiatives at the national, state, and local level to address the topic. 4. Describe the role of the nurse in addressing this topic and objective.
